Program Overview

About the Program

The PMBA Representative Program is a competitive development program open to all participants who have the commitment, ability and desire to compete at a higher level. PMBA encourages athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers to join Port Macquarie representative basketball.

Rep Trials

The first round of trials for the representative teams will be held on Sunday October 15 and the second session will be held on Saturday October 21. An email will be sent to all junior players in the domestic competition, and more details including the times for each age group will be on our Facebook page.

Rep Season

The official rep season runs from January through August.

Preseason tournaments like Seaside Classic held in Port Macquarie in November are part of the trial process and give players more opportunities to play against other clubs.

Yearly Calendar

  • September - Coaching nominations due
  • October - Rep trials
  • November - Preseason carnival
  • January - Induction camp
  • February - Team training begins
  • March - Rep games begin
  • July - Grand finals

Teams

The Junior Representative Program enters teams in the Spalding Waratah Junior League from Under 12s to Under 18s for both boys and girls.

A team of 10 is selected from the PMBA trials. Some age groups may offer shadow positions where players have the opportunity to train with the team and improve their skills.

Trainings

Trainings vary depending on coach and player availability.

Trainings are usually 1.5-2 hour once or twice a week during the evening or on the weekend. Currently, all our rep teams train at the Port Macquarie Indoor Sports Stadium on Thursday evening.

Games

Games are played on the weekend. Known as 'rep rounds', teams from around the state play each other with an opportunity to make the finals held at the end of July.

There are typically 4 rounds held in regional areas, including Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle, Lismore, Tamworth for teams playing in the Eastern Junior League. Teams playing in the Premier League play in Newcastle, Syndey and Illawara.

Fees

Costs to participate as a rep player include game fees, travel and accommodation costs and training fees for 8-9 months of competitive basketball.

Teams are encouraged to fundraise to keep costs low, and hardship scholarship funding is available. The average cost per player is $800/player, not including travel expenses.
