Financial Assistance

Basketball is a wonderful sport, and we'd hate to see anyone go without just because of financial restraints, so please find below some initiatives that we are aware of or provide ourselves to help kids play out great sport.

Westport Athlete Support Program (WASP)

The Westport Club in Port Macquarie have been amazing supporters of ours for many years and provide us with funding grants that we have set up to provide players with some subsidies on their fees if required.

2023's fundings have been allocated but keep an eye out for more details for 2024 on this webpage or email treasurer@portmacquariebasketball.com.au for any information or questions regarding this funding.

Dream Hoops 1000

Basketball NSW has been tirelessly fundraising to provide financial assistance grants to help increase first-time participation numbers. The Dream Hoops 1000 program works with families to overcome the financial barrier they face in playing basketball by providing a financial voucher towards registration fees, games fees or uniforms.

The objective of the grant is to enable young people who wish to play for the first time but are unable due to financial circumstances the opportunity.

The Dream Hoops 1000 Program Grant
The Dream Hoops 1000 Program Grants offer successful applicants a $100 voucher, which can be applied towards Aussie Hoops registration fees or Association domestic competition fees, game costs, or uniform expenses.

Eligibility for the grants is open to individuals who meet the following selection criteria:

  • Have not previously been a registered member of Basketball NSW
  • 18 years of age or under
  • Resides in one of the nominated postcodes (please refer to our website for the detailed list)

One of the critical components of the selection criteria for the Dream Hoops 1000 program grants is socio-economic disadvantage. We have based this criterion on the Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA). This product developed by the ABS ranks areas in Australia according to relative socio-economic advantages and disadvantages. The indexes are based on information from the Census and are by postcode. The areas are ranted between 1-10, and areas ranked six or below are included on our list.

Grants

Receiving grants is a vitally important part of any Not for Profit Organisation. We are constantly on the look out for any type of Grant, and if you are aware of one that you think could help, please email treasurer@portmacquariebasketball.com.au so that we can follow up and hopefully be successful receiptents.

Fundraising

Teams and players are encouraged to seek fundraisint opportunities that might help ease the burden on their playing costs, especially those rep kids who's family have the extra costs of travelling away for games and extra training costs. While we support players in their fundraising efforts we simply ask for them to register those fundraising events with us so we can keep track of supports and learn from new initiatives.
